When I launched Music and Memories in September 2025, it came from a simple belief: senior residents deserve the same quality live music you’d expect in a good local venue or acoustic session. They’re a discerning audience, they love stories, and they value real connection.

The response was immediate. Between September and December, I performed 24 shows across the ACT. The energy in those rooms confirmed something important — when you bring professional-grade music and honest storytelling into a community, people respond.

Looking Back on 2025: 24 Shows, Real Connection

Those first shows worked because the approach was respectful. The setlists aren’t “simplified” for the setting. I play the same timeless songs and pub-style classics that have soundtracked people’s lives.

One of the real highlights has been sharing my original songs. Talking through where a song came from often sparks great conversations. Residents engage not just emotionally but thoughtfully with the songwriting itself. Whether it’s a full-room singalong, a special request, or a quiet reflective moment, the aim is always the same: Sing. Remember. Smile.

What’s Coming in 2026

With the support of organisations including RSL LifeCare, BaptistCare, LDK, and the Salvation Army, Music and Memories returns in 2026 — refined, but true to its roots.

The Power of Live Music

Live music has a unique ability to connect people. It transcends age and background. In my experience, it fosters community and brings joy. I’ve seen it happen time and again during my performances.

When I play, I see smiles, hear laughter, and witness moments of reflection. Music creates an atmosphere where everyone feels included. It’s not just about the notes; it’s about the shared experience.

Engaging with the Audience

Engagement is key to a successful performance. I strive to create an environment where residents feel comfortable participating. This is why I include printed lyric books. They empower everyone to join in, regardless of their singing ability.

During my shows, I encourage requests and stories. This interaction enriches the experience for everyone involved. It’s about building connections and making memories together.

The Importance of Storytelling

Storytelling is at the heart of my performances. Each song has a story, and sharing these tales adds depth to the music. It invites listeners to connect on a personal level.

When I explain the inspiration behind a song, I see eyes light up. Residents relate to the themes and emotions. This connection enhances their enjoyment and makes the performance memorable.

Looking Ahead

As I prepare for 2026, I’m excited about the possibilities. I aim to refine my approach while staying true to the essence of Music and Memories.

I plan to introduce new songs and stories. I want to keep the repertoire fresh while maintaining the classics that everyone loves. My goal is to continue providing high-quality live music that resonates with audiences.

Conclusion

Music and Memories is more than just a performance; it’s a celebration of life and connection. I’m grateful for the support I’ve received and look forward to what 2026 will bring.

Thank you for being part of this journey. Let’s create more memories together through the power of music.
